Kylian Mbappé Slams ‘Brazen Racism’ After Paraguayan Senator’s Offensive Comments Following France’s World Cup Win

Kylian Mbappé has condemned what he described as “brazen racism” after a Paraguayan senator made offensive remarks about the French captain following France’s FIFA World Cup Round of 16 victory over Paraguay.

The football world has rallied behind Kylian Mbappé after the French superstar publicly denounced racist comments made by Paraguayan senator Celeste Amarilla in the aftermath of France’s 1-0 win over Paraguay at the FIFA World Cup.

Mbappé, who scored the match-winning penalty to send France into the quarter-finals, found himself at the center of controversy after Amarilla published a series of social media posts containing racist insults and offensive remarks about his race, heritage and French identity.

The 27-year-old wasted little time responding, calling the senator’s comments “brazen racism” and criticizing her conduct as unbecoming of a public official.

“You are a despicable woman and unworthy of your position,” Mbappé wrote, adding that her comments had overshadowed what had been a commendable World Cup campaign by Paraguay.

He also said he would continue speaking out against racism, insisting there is no place for discrimination in football or society.

French Football Federation Condemns Comments

The French Football Federation (FFF) quickly backed Mbappé, describing the senator’s remarks as unacceptable and confirming that it intends to pursue legal action through the appropriate authorities.

French Sports Minister Marie Barsacq also condemned the comments, while Paraguay’s government distanced itself from Amarilla’s statements, emphasizing that they do not represent the country’s values or its people.

The controversy came just hours after France secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Paraguay in the FIFA World Cup Round of 16.

Mbappé’s second-half penalty proved to be the difference as Didier Deschamps’ side booked its place in the quarter-finals, keeping alive its hopes of lifting another World Cup trophy.

Despite the on-field success, the post-match conversation quickly shifted to the racist abuse aimed at one of football’s biggest stars. The incident has reignited discussions about racism in football, with players, clubs and governing bodies continuing to call for stronger action against discrimination.

Mbappé has repeatedly used his platform to challenge racism throughout his career, and his latest response has been widely praised by supporters who believe public figures must be held accountable for hateful language.

As France prepares for the next stage of the FIFA World Cup, many hope the focus returns to football rather than the off-field controversy that followed its victory over Paraguay.
