The Jamaican community in Los Angeles has been left in shambles after two Jamaican men were killed and another seriously injured in a brazen shooting in the Hyde Park area on Friday evening.
Authorities indicated that gunfire erupted near the intersection of 59th Street and Crenshaw Boulevard shortly before 8 p.m., leaving three men with multiple gunshot wounds. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while a second later died at hospital. A third man remains hospitalized as detectives continue their investigation.
The deceased have been identified as Jerome Cunningham, widely known as “Rome” or “Maypen Jerome,” and another man identified only by the alias “Kat.” The surviving victim, identified as Nanko Paul, is receiving treatment, although police have not released details about his condition.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), investigators believe multiple suspects approached the men before opening fire and fleeing the area. No arrests have been announced, and detectives have not yet disclosed a possible motive.
The incident has sparked discussion among members of the Jamaican diaspora, with many expressing condolences to the families while urging anyone with information to cooperate with investigators.
Police are asking anyone who witnessed the shooting or has information that could assist the investigation to contact the LAPD.
